The glory of the New Covenant.
By Pieter Kirstein
The Torah will condemn you unless you turn away from the law and embrace Christ as the Messiah for the
Torah testified of Him.
John 5:38 And you have not His word abiding in you: for whom He has sent, Him you believe not.
39 Search the scriptures; for in them you think you have eternal life:
and they are they which testify of Me.
40 And you will not come to Me, that you might have life.
41 I receive not honor from men.
42 But I know you, that you have not the love of God in you.
43 I am come in My Father's name, and you receive Me not: if another shall come in his own name, him you will receive.
44 How can you believe, who receive honor one of another, and seek not the honor that comes from God only?
45 Do not think that I will accuse you to the Father: there is one that accuses you, even Moses, in whom you trust.
46 For had you believed Moses, you would have believed Me: for he wrote of Me.
47 But if
you believe not his writings, how shall you believe My words?
Jesus came to fulfill the writings of Moses and the prophecies of the old prophets because they testified of Him. Christ never commanded us to go back and obey and live according to the laws
of the old covenant.
There are many who completely misinterpret what He said in
17 Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but
Again, this simply means that when He showed up that which Moses wrote about Him and that which the prophets spoke about Him was fulfilled.
Then He went on to say
18 For truly I say to you, until
the heaven and the earth shall pass away, one jot or one tittle shall in no way pass from the Law until everything has been fulfilled.
19 Therefore, whoever shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, shall be called
least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever shall practice and teach them, this one shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
20 For I say to you, unless your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees,
there is no way that you shall enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Which commandments was He referring to in the context of what we've been reading?
Jesus came to declare a new covenant with new laws as our new High Priest. The Pharisees sinned
and stood against what Moses wrote about Jesus and rejected the words of the prophets and so rejected God's plan of redemption through His Son.
This is why Jesus said in
John 5:38 And you have not His word abiding in you: for whom He has
sent, Him you believe not.
39 Search the scriptures; for in them you think you have eternal life: and they are they which testify of Me.
40 And you will not come to Me, that you might have life.
had you believed Moses, you would have believed Me: for he wrote of Me.
Jesus never instructed us to go back to obey the laws of the old covenant because since He came there is no redemption found in the old covenant and
it's laws. Redemption and justification is only found in Him.
The old covenant and it's laws served as our schoolmaster and temporary tutor to point and bring us to Christ and to declare that we are sinners in need
of a Savior.
22 But the Scriptures have shut up all things under sin, so that by the faith of Jesus Christ the promise might be given to those who believe.
23 Now before faith came,
we were guarded under law, having been shut up unto the faith that was yet to be revealed.
24 In this way, the law was our tutor to lead us to Christ that we might be justified by faith.
Jesus showed me an open vision to explain what
this means. I saw the laws of the old covenant as sheep dogs running towards, chasing and guarding these sheep
Then the sheep dogs chased the sheep into the loving arms of Christ the Shepherd and then Jesus said to me that now that
His sheep are with Him, they no longer need the dogs to bark at them for He has silenced them.
20 Therefore, by works of law there shall no flesh be justified before Him; for through the law is
the knowledge of sin.
21 But now, the righteousness of God that is separate from law has been revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets;
22 Even the righteousness of God that is through the faith of Jesus Christ,
toward all and upon all those who believe; for there is no difference.
23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
24 But are being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ
16 Knowing that a man is not justified by works of law, but through the faith of Jesus Christ, we also have believed in Christ Jesus in order that we might be justified by the faith of
Christ, and not by works of law; because by works of law shall no flesh be justified.
17 Now then, if we are seeking to be justified in Christ, and we ourselves are found to be sinners, is Christ then the minister of sin? MAY IT NEVER BE!
18 For if I build again those things that I destroyed, I am making myself a transgressor.
19 For I through law died to works of law, in order that I may live to God.
20 I have been crucified with Christ,
yet I live. Indeed, it is no longer I; but Christ lives in me. For the life that I am now living in the flesh, I live by faith—that very faith of the Son of God, Who loved me and gave Himself for me.
21 I do not nullify the grace of
God; for if righteousness is through works of law , then Christ died in vain."
10 For as many as are relying on works of law are under a curse, because it is written, "Cursed is everyone
who does not continue in all things that have been written in the book of the law to do them."
11 Therefore, it is evident that no one is being justified before God by means of works of law; because it is written, "The just shall live by
12 Now then, the law is not based on faith; but, "The man who practices these things shall live in them."
13 Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law, having become a curse for us (for it is written, "Cursed
is everyone who hangs on a tree")
Also it must be understood what was further meant when Christ declared in Matthew 5
19 Therefore, whoever shall break one of these least
commandments, and shall teach men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever shall practice and teach them, this one shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.
Which commandments was He referring
His new laws and higher standard of righteousness proclaimed as our new High Priest in His sermon on the mount.
11 If therefore perfection were by the Levitical
priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that another priest should rise after the order of Melchizedek, and not be called after the order of Aaron?
12 For the priesthood being changed, there is
made of necessity a change also of the law.
48 Therefore, you shall be perfect, even as your Father Who is in heaven is perfect."
Luk 6:40 The disciple is not above his master,
but everyone who is perfect shall be like his master.
Joh 17:23 I in them, and You in Me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that You have sent Me and have loved them as You have loved
Under Christ's priesthood we receive the ministry of the supernatural transformation work of the Spirit of God by which we grow from glory to glory until we become exactly like Jesus. Human effort through the works
of the law that was written on tablets of stone perfected no one.
2 Corinthians 3
5 not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves, but our sufficiency
is of God;
6 who also has made us able ministers of the new covenant; not of the letter, but of the spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit makes alive.
THE MINISTRY OF MOSES BROUGHT DEATH UNTO CONDEMNATION UNDER
THE OLD COVENANT, WHEREAS THE MINISTRY OF CHRIST UNDER THE NEW COVENANT GIVES US HIS LIFE.
7 But if the ministry of death, having been engraved in letters in stone was with glory (so that the sons of Israel
could not steadfastly behold the face of Moses because of the glory of his face), which was being done away;
8 shall not the ministry of the Spirit be with more glory?
9 For if the ministry of condemnation is glorious,
much more does the ministry of righteousness exceed in glory.
10 For even that which was made glorious had no glory in this respect, because of the glory that excels.
11 For if that which has been done away was glorious,
much more that which remains is glorious.
12 Then since we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech.
13 And we are not like Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the sons of Israel could not steadfastly look
to the end of the thing being done away.
14 (But their thoughts were blinded; for until the present the same veil remains on the reading of the old covenant, not taken away.) But this veil has been done away in Christ.
But until this day, when Moses is read, the veil is on their heart.
16 But whenever it turns to [the] Lord, the veil shall be taken away.
17 And the Lord [is] that Spirit; and where the Spirit of [the] Lord [is], there
[is] liberty. 18 But we all, with [our] face having been unveiled, having beheld the glory of the Lord as in a mirror, are being changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Lord Spirit.
ministry of the new covenant the Spirit of God transforms His born-again sons and daughters into the likeness and the image of Christ.
Perfection could never be attained through the old covenant laws and human effort,
so Jesus came to introduce us to a better way.
Remember He came as our new High Priest giving new laws under a new covenant and this is why we see Him override the laws given to Moses and introducing a much higher standard.
21 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of the judgment:
22 but I say unto you, That whosoever
is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire.
27 Ye have heard
that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:
28 but I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
Spirit power ministry must be understood that its an inward transformation work of grace because the laws under the old covenant could not change the sinful hearts of men because of the nature of the fallen Adam working inside of us.
8 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh (old covenant dead works)
but after the Spirit. 2 For the
law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:
4 that the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
This means that God's Spirit working in us will perfect that which the law could not do. We are not under the
legalistic performance of the old covenant, but undergoing loving supernatural transformation through the ministry of the Spirit under the new covenant and through the disciplinary work of the Father, until we bring forth the fruits of righteousness, which
is the life of Christ being worked out in us unto maturity and manifested sonship.
5 And ye have forgotten the exhortation which speaketh unto you as unto children, My son,
despise not thou the chastening of the Lord, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: 6 for whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. 7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom
the father chasteneth not? 8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. 9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection
unto the Father of spirits, and live? 10 For they verily for a few days chastened us after their own pleasure; but he for our profit, that we might be partakers of his holiness. 11 Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless
afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.
14 Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned
after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. 15 But not as the offense, so also is the free gift. For if through the offense of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is
by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. 16 And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offenses unto justification. 17 For if by one man’s offense death reigned
by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.)
18 Therefore as by the offense of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even
so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. 19 For as by one man’s disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous. 20 Moreover the law entered, that the offense
might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: 21 that as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
Through the new covenant
we are now married to Christ and have been divorced from the old covenant and it's legalistic performance laws. Those who seek to pervert the new covenant under Christ by returning to the laws of the old covenant are committing spiritual adultery.
7 Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? 2 For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the
law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. 3 So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free
from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man.
4 Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him
who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. 5 For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death. 6 But now we are delivered from the law, that being
dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.
The old covenant laws was but a shadow of the better reality found in Christ. We do not worship shadows. We worship
and follow Christ because He is the image and the fulfillment of the law.
13 And you who were dead in trespasses and in the uncircumcision of your flesh (your sensuality, your sinful
carnal nature), [God] brought to life together with [Christ], having [freely] forgiven us all our transgressions,
14 Having cancelled and blotted out and wiped away the handwriting of the note (bond) with its legal decrees and demands which was in force
and stood against us (hostile to us). This [note with its regulations, decrees, and demands] He set aside and cleared completely out of our way by nailing it to [His] cross.
15 [God] disarmed the principalities and powers that were ranged against us
and made a bold display and public example of them, in triumphing over them in Him and in it [the cross].
16 Therefore let no one sit in judgment on you in matters of food and drink, or with regard to a feast day or a New Moon or a Sabbath.
Such [things] are only the shadow of things that are to come, and they have only a symbolic value. But the reality (the substance, the solid fact of what is foreshadowed, the body of it) belongs to Christ.
Through the ministry
of the Spirit and the born-again experience,
He now transforms us through power of His truth proclaimed through the ministry of Christ until we become exactly like Jesus.
Please understand beloved that this new
you which is given to you in a seed form at the new-birth has absolutely no desire to fellowship with darkness and its godly nature, is pure and sinless.
Remember it is incorruptible seed from the living God and the
life and nature of God is programmed into His seed. This is also why a person's desires suddenly changes at the new-birth because as a born-again child of God your desires are to please the One from whom the seed was taken.
This divine living seed has nothing to do with the sinful nature of the fleshly Adam. Its desires are contrary and this is why the moment we become born again children of the Lord we enter a spiritual wrestling match because the new man wants to serve God
and the old man wants to serve sin.
Each one of these incorruptible seeds that came from God himself has the full potential to become a fully mature son of God. This is why we read in Rom 8:29 For whom He did foreknow,
He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
But to be brought to maturity we will have to learn how this plan develops and unfolds by the revelation
of the Holy Spirit. I love what God said to me about this fact, "You were a success story before you were born because your book is already written in heaven. My word does not stop in the Bible because it carries on in you. Now you will discover it as your
life unfolds in Me.
First the word becomes flesh within you through your obedience and relationship-building with the Word (Jesus), next you become filled with the Holy Spirit because the Word and the Spirit are one and the
Spirit manifests the life of the Word in you. Then you become the voice and the operation of the Word by the power of God through the leading of the Holy Spirit. In God you become the authority.”
This is the glory and
the power of the new covenant wrought out in us.
15 And also the Holy Spirit adds His testimony to us [in confirmation of this]. For having said,
16 This is the agreement (testament, covenant)
that I will set up and conclude with them after those days, says the Lord: I will imprint My laws upon their hearts, and I will inscribe them on their minds (on their inmost thoughts and understanding),
17 He then goes on to say, And their sins and
their lawbreaking I will remember no more.
18 Now where there is absolute remission (forgiveness and cancellation of the penalty) of these [sins and lawbreaking], there is no longer any offering made to atone for sin.
19 Therefore, brethren,
since we have full freedom and confidence to enter into the [Holy of] Holies [by the power and virtue] in the blood of Jesus,
20 By this fresh (new) and living way which He initiated and dedicated and opened for us through the separating curtain (veil
of the Holy of Holies), that is, through His flesh,
21 And since we have [such] a great and wonderful and noble Priest [Who rules] over the house of God,
22 Let us all come forward and draw near with true (honest and sincere) hearts in unqualified
assurance and absolute conviction engendered by faith (by that leaning of the entire human personality on God in absolute trust and confidence in His power, wisdom, and goodness), having our hearts sprinkled and purified from a guilty (evil) conscience and
our bodies cleansed with pure water.
It's an inward transformation work of grace wrought out in us by Spirit of God.
24 For I will take you from among the heathen,
and gather you out of all countries, and will bring you into your own land.
25 Then will I sprinkle clean water upon you, and ye shall be clean: from all your filthiness, and from all your idols, will I cleanse you. 26 A new heart also will I give you,
and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.
27 And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and
ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. 28 And ye shall dwell in the land that I gave to your fathers; and ye shall be my people, and I will be your God. 29 I will also save you from all your uncleannesses: and I will call for the corn, and will increase
it, and lay no famine upon you.
30 And I will multiply the fruit of the tree, and the increase of the field, that ye shall receive no more reproach of famine among the heathen. 31 Then shall ye remember your own evil
ways, and your doings that were not good, and shall lothe yourselves in your own sight for your iniquities and for your abominations. 32 Not for your sakes do I this, saith the Lord God, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O
house of Israel.
33 Thus saith the Lord God; In the day that I shall have cleansed you from all your iniquities I will also cause you to dwell in the cities, and the wastes shall be builded. 34 And the desolate land shall
be tilled, whereas it lay desolate in the sight of all that passed by. 35 And they shall say, This land that was desolate is become like the garden of Eden; and the waste and desolate and ruined cities are become fenced, and are inhabited. 36 Then the heathen
that are left round about you shall know that I the Lord build the ruined places, and plant that that was desolate: I the Lord have spoken it, and I will do it.
